BASE Technology Q1 2026

Couchbase, Inc. is a developer data platform company that focuses on critical applications in the evolving AI landscape. Its database solutions aim to provide performance, scalability, and versatility to handle various workloads, including transactional, analytical, and mobile applications.

In the first quarter of fiscal 2026, Couchbase’s performance reflected a strong upward trajectory. Total annual recurring revenue (ARR) was reported at $252.1 million, marking a 21% increase year-over-year and a 6% sequential growth. Net new ARR reached $14.2 million, soaring over 300% compared to the same quarter last year. Revenue for the quarter was $56.5 million, representing a 10% year-over-year increase and a 3% rise sequentially.

The company recorded a non-GAAP operating loss of $4.2 million, an improvement from a loss of $6.7 million in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was reported at 88.7%, down from 89.9% year-over-year. Furthermore, Capella, Couchbase’s cloud database service, accounted for $44 million in ARR, reflecting an 84% year-over-year growth and a 14% quarter-over-quarter increase, now representing 17.4% of total ARR.

Couchbase’s guidance for the upcoming quarters indicates further optimism, projecting second-quarter revenue between $54.4 million and $55.2 million, suggesting a year-over-year growth of 6% at the midpoint. For total ARR, guidance is set between $255.8 million and $258.8 million, which represents a year-over-year growth rate of 20% at the midpoint. The company anticipates a non-GAAP operating loss ranging from $5.1 million to $4.1 million for the second quarter.

Notably, Couchbase’s dollar-based net retention rate stands above 114%. The company concluded the quarter with 937 customers, a decline of 10 from the previous quarter, influenced by churn from clients utilizing starter packs—a lower entry-tier offering. Despite this, Couchbase reports significant ARR derived from its starter pack cohort, with a notable number transitioning to higher ARR tiers.

Overall, Couchbase’s financial results highlight robust growth metrics, grounded by an expanding customer base and increased consumption of its product offerings, particularly Capella.
