QuarterGate Comment Guidelines

  1. Be kind. Don't be snarky. Converse curiously rather than cross-examining. Edit out swipes.
  2. As topics get more divisive, comments should get more thoughtful and substantive, not less.
  3. When disagreeing, address the argument instead of calling names. “1 + 1 is 2, not 3.” is enough.
  4. Don’t fulminate or sneer. That includes at the community itself.
  5. Respond to the strongest plausible interpretation of what someone says. Assume good faith.
  6. Avoid flamebait, generic tangents, and internet tropes.
  7. Don’t post shallow dismissals, especially of other people's work. A good critical comment teaches us something.
  8. Please don’t use QuarterGate for political or ideological battles. That tramples curiosity.
  9. Don’t comment on whether someone has read a report. Summarize or clarify what it says instead.
  10. If a comment is spam or off-topic, flag it. Don’t feed it by replying.
