QuarterGate Comment Guidelines
-
Be kind. Don't be snarky. Converse curiously rather than cross-examining. Edit out swipes.
-
As topics get more divisive, comments should get more thoughtful and substantive, not less.
-
When disagreeing, address the argument instead of calling names. “1 + 1 is 2, not 3.” is enough.
- Don’t fulminate or sneer. That includes at the community itself.
-
Respond to the strongest plausible interpretation of what someone says. Assume good faith.
- Avoid flamebait, generic tangents, and internet tropes.
-
Don’t post shallow dismissals, especially of other people's work. A good critical comment teaches us something.
-
Please don’t use QuarterGate for political or ideological battles. That tramples curiosity.
-
Don’t comment on whether someone has read a report. Summarize or clarify what it says instead.
- If a comment is spam or off-topic, flag it. Don’t feed it by replying.
